Once you know which tutor you want to see, look at the schedule to find out when they are on shift.


Paige Amico

Paige Amico is a junior and a member of the field hockey team. Her favorite courses to tutor are Math 121, Math 126, Math 220, and Math 221. She can also help with Cmpu 101, Cmpu 102, Excel, LaTeX, MatLab, and R.


Austin Atsango

Austin is an international student from Kenya who is passionate about teaching and the sharing of ideas. In the future, he intends to pursue a career in academics. Austin’s favorite subjects to tutor are general and organic chemistry. He can also help with Excel. He enjoys warm weather and a good Netflix original.


Nupur Balain

Nupur Balain is a junior. Within economics, she is particularly interested in finance. Outside of it, she is part of the VSA Senate.


Evan Burns

Evan’s favorite course to tutor is Organic Chemistry II, as he enjoys reaction mechanisms. He can also help with JMP. Aside from working at the Q-Center, he is a member of Vassar’s varsity lacrosse team. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering at the Poughkeepsie Early Learning Center where he works with English as a New Language (ENL) learners through Vassar’s VELLOP program. He also interns at the Vassar Brother’s Medical Center through Vassar’s Community Engaged Learning program. Additionally, he is on the pre-med track and hopes to attend medical school after his time at Vassar.

Leven Cai

Leven Cai is a chemistry tutor on a secondary teaching certification track. Ever since freshman year, he has been planning to become a biology teacher in New York City, his hometown. He is interested in a teaching career, because he enjoy giving lessons and helping students understand concepts in science. Outside of his education life, he actively learn how to cook various cuisines, from Italian to Chinese. If you ever catch him eating at the Deece, he would probably be watching a video about a famous chef, an entree recipe, or a dessert.


Gabbi Chwae

Courses tutored: Math 121, Math 126, Math 127, Math 220, Math 221

Gabbi returns to the Q Center this year after a semester abroad studying international human rights. She is currently studying the intersection of mathematics and political science and hopes to continue in this field in her graduate school education. Her favorite courses to tutor are Math 121 and Math 126, Math 127. Gabbi can also help with Excel and LaTeX.


Carina Cohen

Courses tutored: Math 121, Math 126, Math 127, Math 220

In addition to being a mathematics Supplemental Instructor, Carina is Vice President of the Disability Rights Coalition, the Vocal Director of this semester’s FWA show, a Vassar College and Community Wind Ensemble flute/piccolo, a Vassar Majors Choir soprano, a part of the Committee on Disability Issues, and an off-campus mathematics tutor. Her current goals include pursuing mathematics instruction and curriculum, advocating for those with invisible chronic physical/mental health conditions, napping, and having lots of cats. Carina’s favorite subject is Math 126. She can also help with Excel and SPSS.


Joe Conti

Joseph Conti is from Pine Bush, New York. He feels the most valuable service he can offer as a tutor is giving advice on how to study Organic Chemistry effectively and efficiently. One thing he loves to do outside of his academic life is to play baseball, go Brewers. He is also a big Yankees fan so feel free to stop by the Q-center anytime and talk to him about chemistry or baseball!


Ben Costa

Ben Costa is a math major and future math teacher, so feel free to ask him about either of those if you’re interested. He also does the crossword for the Miscellany News, so if you have an idea for a theme, let him know! His favorite course to tutor is Linear Algebra. Ben can also help with Excel, LaTeX, and R.


Sam Gilbert

Sam is a Physics and German Studies double-major. He was initially drawn to physics and mathematics by a love of (or perhaps compulsion for) solving puzzles and problems. His hobbies include bowling, playing music, watching X-Files, and Rubik’s cubes. He enjoys working in the Q-Center partly because he’s a proud card-carrying nerd, and partly because although mathematics and physics are tough and frustrating, they can be extremely fun and rewarding to study. Come by the Q-Center to work through homework or study for an exam, or just to talk about why bowling is more of a lifestyle than a game. Sam can also help you with Excel, LaTeX, Mathematica, MatLab, and Python. He loves tutoring everything physics! Calculus and Linear Algebra are his favorites from the math department.


Lisa Je

Lisa Je is currently the Supplemental Instructor (SI) for the SMART section of organic chemistry 8:30-9:20 AM. She enjoys organic reactions in the lab and also appreciate the beauty of chemistry in nature (photosynthesis), cuisine (mostly pan fried vegetable dumplings), and education (volunteering to spread the colorful world of science and math). You will mostly likely find her living in the library, thesis-ing in the bridge building, or running on the Vassar Farm’s nature trails. She can also help with Excel and MatLab, but her favorite topic is organic chemistry.


Jaewon Kang

Jaewon Kang is a sophomore chemistry major at Vassar. He grew up the Buffalo, NY but now lives in Murray, KY. He is involved with House Team, VSA, and the Vassar Underground. Jaewon currently works at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for oncology and cardiology research. He loves Taylor Swift and the Buffalo Bills. He also loves VSEPR, gas laws, election configurations, and all of Chem 108.


Ghali Khalil

Ghali is a sophomore Neuroscience and Behavior Major/ Chemistry Minor. He lives in Alexandria, Egypt, but was born in San Fransisco, CA. His hobbies are camping, sports, scouting, and video gaming. Ghali is a member of the Men’s Volleyball team. His favorite subject to tutor is chemistry.

Monty Kwan is from Cape Elizabeth, ME. She is doing a senior thesis project in microbiology and is interested in pursuing graduate study in immunology. Her favorite thing within general chemistry is redox reactions!

Kai Matheson is a junior from Bethesda, Maryland. This is their second year working for the Q-Center. Their favorite classes to tutor are Math 228 and Econ 102. In addition, they can help with Excel, LaTeX, Mathematica, MatLab, R, and Stata. In studying both mathematics and urban studies, they are particularly interested in the ways in which quantitative methods can be applied to urban problems. Talk to them about math classes, career aspirations, and time management!


Alex May

Mathematics is Alex’s passion! Alex has tutored mathematics independently at home, and enjoys learning about math in their free time. They are also getting a correlate sequence in Computer Science. They like applying algorithms from mathematics in programs. On a personal note, Alex loves their cats and looking at other people’s cats on the internet. In their spare time, they listen to and make music. At the Q Center, they can also help with Modern Algebra, Real Analysis, Excel, Dr. Racket, Scheme, and Java. They love algebra, and they enjoy geometry. Proofs are their specialty, but they are also great with math problems.


Rebeca Maria Muresan

Rebeca is many things: from Romania, lover of caffeine, consulting and carbon nanotubes. Also an amateur writer (as evident from her alliteration attempts) and proud STEMinist. At the Q-Center she serves as an Organic Chemistry Supplemental Instructor (which happens to be her favorite subject to tutor) but she can also be helpful with Calculus, any other field of Chemistry and Introductory Physics! Additionally, she is glad to serve as a resource for any students who are interested in how to put your STEM degree to use outside of academia post Vassar and how to prepare for interviews/study for GRE/GMAT (so like a personalized career coach). Feel free to reach out whenever!


Sohaib Nasir

Sohaib first discovered math at Vassar College. It was Vassar’s math department that actually gave him the confidence to go and pursue math--coming in he thought he just didn’t have the mind for it. The math department is, for him, the most wonderful thing at Vassar, and it has really shaped his life in a way that he can’t imagine. Don’t doubt yourself, anyone can do math; all it really takes is confidence. He can also help you with LaTeX. His favorites are Linear Algebra and Number Theory.


Izzy Schnake

Izzy Schnake is a biochem senior from Indiana, and she is going to pharmacy school next fall. She is also an organic chem lab intern. Outside of classes, she stage-manages student theatre productions, and she enjoys cooking in her TA. She can also help with Excel and R.

Luis enjoys soccer and working on collaborative software projects with my friends. Luis’s favorite courses to tutor include Math 126, Math 263, Math 241, and Cmpu 102.


Samanvaya (“Sam”) Sharma

Sam is a senior Biochemistry major from Brooklyn, NY (raised in India). He has worked with the Q-Center since 2015 and is the incumbent Head SI. At Vassar, he has worked on research projects with Professor Esteban and Professor Straus in Biology and Professor Garrett in Chemistry. This semester, he is also a lab intern for Bio 272 with Professor Aitken. He hopes to go to medical school after Vassar. He loves General Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Tim is currently a senior physics major at Vassar and a rising 5th year engineering student at Dartmouth College. He is a participant of the dual-degree program (so if you have any question about that he can always talk about that after his shifts!). He enjoys teaching and plans to make it a larger part of his life further down the road as he pursues a career in academia, so you can always feel comfortable asking him any type of question and also let him know if the approach taken is not working out for you. He likes to see himself as an open and flexible tutor, and he wants to make sure that he leaves every student with a positive outlook on their courses as they leave for the night. He can also help with Excel, LaTex, Matlab. His favorite topics to tutor are calculus and physics related courses. He is also pretty comfortable with general chemistry!

Jenny Zheng is a senior math and music double major, originally from Berkeley, CA. This is her first year as an SI. Outside of her SI work, she really enjoys learning more about the mathematical field of topology. Her junior year, she studied abroad in Vienna and Budapest because she loves to travel and learn about other cultures. She also plays piano and enjoys collaborating with other musicians in the chamber music program. She loves tutoring calculus, and she can also help with LaTeX and Mathematica.
