Library Instruction Services
Library Instruction Services offer a variety of programs to promote awareness of the breadth and depth of the Library's collections and to foster students' ability to use research materials effectively. Students may also arrange individual research consultations with a reference librarian or peer tutor.
Course-Related Instruction
Many professors request course-related instruction to help students with research related to specific assignments. Some departments arrange a library session for their majors as well. As there is a heavy demand for both the classroom and course-related instruction, please schedule at least two weeks in advance. Better yet, schedule library instruction into your syllabus and let us know before the semester begins.
To request an instruction session, contact the Head of Library Instruction and Outreach: Kathy Kurosman, ex. 5789
Bibliographies and Research Guides
Reference librarians prepare bibliographies, checklists, and other guides to using the Library, its collections and electronic services. Most are available on the Library web site.
Contact Kathy Kurosman or Reference if you would like an online research guide developed for a particular subject area or course.
Research Consultations
Individual research consultations with a reference librarian are available by appointment. Science, art, and music librarians do consultations in their own areas. Forms for requesting a research consultation are at the Reference Desk and online under Online Library Forms.
Mediated Database Searching
The purpose of the mediated database searching service is to support the academic and scholarly research needs of Vassar faculty and students by supplementing the readily available indexes and abstracts. Request forms for database searches may be filled out at the Reference Desk. Please allow 3-5 days for processing of the request. There is no charge for this service.
